Jaydar™ Manufacturing

The Jaydar™ is a machine designed to inject liquids into large round, or square bales.

This web site focuses on the Jaydar's™ use for injecting liquid feed supplement into straw bales, or poor quality hay bales for cattle. Keep in mind that it can (and has been) used for horses, elk, sheep, bison or any other herd animal which requires winter feeding. It has been used in a large variety of straw/feed types, such as wheat straw, pea straw, fescue, and canola. In all cases so far the supplement remains in the feed, and the animals eat the feed as well, or better than good hay.

Our goal is to reduce the cost of ranching by cutting down it's major expense--the feed requirements during the winter months. During the past 25 years the costs for providing quality feed have continually escalated, while the price of straw and low quality hay remains low. A method was needed to utilize this low quality feed in an efficient, and consistent manner.

In the past ranchers have applied liquid supplement to bales by either pouring it directly onto a bale, or by using a spray system. Both of these methods are labour intensive, inefficient and inconsistent. Another alternative is the "lick tank", however there is no control over the amounts that each animal consumes, and this method lacks the roughage the animals require. The Jaydar™ provides ranchers with a cost effective, and efficient solution. This makes the straw both nutritional and palatable for the animals.

The machine inserts forty-four 24" probes into the bale. Once the probes are six inches into the bale the supplement injection begins. When the probes have reached the centre of the bale the injection is complete, and the probes withdraw. The system injects 1-8 gallons in each bale, and can inject 40-50 bales an hour. It is clean, fast and economical, working for large round, or large square bales.

We do custom injections in our region (South Eastern Alberta, Canada) in addition to manufacturing and selling the units to entrepreneurs. When a unit is sold the purchaser is guaranteed a viable operating area. This operating area ensures no machines will be sold nearby. Since we have both American and Canadian Patents the only competition you face are the other methods of applying supplement listed above.  As a small business the Jaydar™ makes an excellent addition to supplement your farm income during the winter months, and can provide a tax write-off.

If you own a supplement company, or are involved in supplement distribution you may find a Jaydar to be a natural addition to your company. You may find an increase in customer satisfaction, and as word of mouth spreads about your new application technique you may find an increase in customers. Farmers feel empowered when they can control precisely how much supplement each animal receives.

The following is a list of machines currently operating. If you live in one of these areas please contact the owner to make an appointment to have your bales injected.
